Cardiac Catheterization Cardiac Catheterization is one of the most accurate ways to evaluate the structure and function of the heart in patients suspected of having coronary artery disease. Our highly trained cardiac cath team, working with the latest technology under the direction of a physician cardiologist, performs hundreds of these diagnostic procedures each year. Our lab is operated in affiliation with Duke University Medical Center.

Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation promotes physical reconditioning for clients after heart attacks, cardiovascular surgery, other cardiac-related conditions and lung disease through a structured program of exercise and education. |

Cardiopulmonary Services Cardiopulmonary Services provides respiratory therapists and technicians, who, under order from a physician, administer breathing treatments, perform electrocardiograms (EKGs), 24-hour cardiograms, and cardiac treadmill stress tests.
Non-invasive peripheral vascular technicians use computerized technology to check for blood-flow obstruction in the great vessels of the neck and extremities; the neurophysiology lab evaluates the health and functioning of the brain, nerves and muscles to diagnose certain conditions such as epilepsy, brain tumors, strokes, pinched nerves, and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Community Health Services “Good habits lead to good health” is the watchword of Community Health Services. This department, staffed by dietitians, nurses, exercise physiologists and other health professionals, offers community health screenings, vaccinations, lifestyle modification classes, and educational programs to improve health and reduce the risk of disease. Diabetes education and chronic disease management are among other services offered through this department. Community Health Services also joins forces with other community health care agencies to participate in the Robeson County Partnership for Community Health, whose goal is to improve the overall health of the community.

Emergency Services Emergency Services are available 24 hours every day through our Emergency Department, a 45-bed unit providing Level II emergency medical services. Staffed by emergency physicians and nurses trained in emergency care, this department serves about 60,000 patients of all ages and diagnoses each year with around-the-clock care and specialty consultation.

Intensive Care Unit Specialized Care is provided in the 12-bed Intensive Care unit, designed, equipped, and staffed to care for the critically ill patient needing constant observation and monitoring. Nearby is a seven-bed Intermediate Care unit serving acutely ill medical and surgical patients of all ages who require a high level of nursing care and continuous monitoring. |

Laboratory The fully accredited Laboratory conducts many of the tests ordered by physicians who prescribe treatment based on lab results. Medical technologists perform these tests under the direction of board-certified pathologists, physicians trained in laboratory medicine. Also available are outpatient testing, drug screen testing, breath alcohol testing and courier service. The Blood Bank is supplied by the American Red Cross. |

Medical Imaging Medical Imaging uses state-of-the-art technology to provide the latest in diagnostic procedures, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), digital subtraction angiography, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and computerized tomography (CT) total body scanning in addition to traditional x-ray exams. All imaging procedures are interpreted by board-certified physician radiologists. |

Nutrition Counseling Nutrition Counseling is provided by registered dietitians who have been certified to assist in meal planning and food preparation for people on modified diets or with special nutritional needs. These services are available to both inpatients and outpatients under the direction of a physician. |

Patient Care Services Patient Care Services are provided by a nursing team led by a registered nurse (RN) who works closely with the patient’s physician. Also, licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants and clerical coordinators are part of the skilled and dedicated nursing team. Each of these employees performs assigned tasks according to his or her education and training and always under a professional leader. |

About Your Bill Your hospital bill does not include charges for private duty nurses or sitters that may be requested by the family or the patient. All professional service fees by your physician, pathologist, anesthesiologist, radiologist or other consulting physicians will be billed to you by those health care providers individually.

Insurance At the time of admission or pre-admission, you will be asked to present your insurance company information. Most insurance companies provide the insured with an insurance card that identifies the company name, group number, plan number and patient identification number. Your insurance company will be notified that you are a patient at SRMC, and your health care benefits will be verified and approved by pre-certification, when necessary. |

Financial Arrangements All patient charges not covered by individual health care insurance benefits are due and payable at the time of registration by check, money order, cash or credit card. Should you need financial assistance through available state and federal programs, please call (910) 671-5037 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. An appointment can be made for you to meet with the Benefit Advisory staff in order to make application for financial assistance to determine if you qualify. |

Hospital Statement You will receive statements regarding your hospital stay within 30 days of leaving the hospital. You will be informed that we have either billed your insurance company or are expecting payment from you for any outstanding charges. You may elect to receive your statements by mail or secure e-mail via the Internet. When paying your bill, you may elect to pay the amount due through the Internet by selecting the button on our home page.

Pharmacy Each of the registered pharmacists in the Pharmacy supervises the preparation of medications and intravenous fluids ordered by physicians 24 hours a day. With the computerized medication profile system, pharmacists are able to provide safety checks, including screening for drug-drug interactions, proper dosage for age and weight and patient allergies. Pharmacists are also available to consult with the physicians and counsel patients on the use of medications.

Rehabilitation Services Rehabilitation Services are designed to return the sick or injured person to optimal functioning as quickly and safely as possible. Physical therapy provides a variety of treatments under the direction of physicians to improve muscle strength and flexibility. Registered physical therapists and assistants perform electrotherapy, hydrotherapy, corrective and restorative exercise, heat therapy, and massage for both outpatients and acute-care inpatients. Occupational therapy offers hand and motor rehabilitation for patients, young and old, suffering from strokes, burns, injuries and other disorders. Sports Medicine offers comprehensive treatment for the prevention, care and rehab of athletic injuries to promote a safe and quick return to normal activity. |

Southeastern Sleep Center The Southeastern Sleep Center offers evaluation and treatment for the most common barriers to a good night’s sleep, including sleep apnea and snoring, periodic limb movements of sleep (PLMS), restless leg syndrome (RLS), narcolepsy, insomnia, childhood sleep problems and shift work. The sleep disorders team includes specially trained technologists and medical specialists skilled in diagnosing and evaluating these disorders.

Surgical Services Surgical Services are provided by our highly experienced team of surgeons, nurses and technicians working with the latest equipment in our modern eight-room operating suite. A certified registered nurse anesthetist under the supervision of a physician anesthesiologist administers the anesthesia and supervises care during surgery. In the post-anesthesia recovery room, the patient is continuously monitored by qualified nurses. Outpatient Surgery is now available for more surgical procedures than ever before in our convenient Outpatient Surgery Center, where the latest in laser and endoscopy equipment and procedures are also available.
