Dr. Rozier honored with philanthropy award

Dr. John C. Rozier, Jr., was presented with the Southeastern Health Foundation’s Bob B. Andrews Friend of Philanthropy Award during an event held December 3 at Candy Sue’s Downtown in Lumberton.

Dr. Rozier currently practices gynecology at Southeastern Health Women’s Clinic in Lumberton, an affiliate of Southeastern Health. He grew up in St. Pauls and earned his medical degree at Wake Forest University’s School of Medicine. He has been a part of Lumberton’s medical community since he completed residency training at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in 1975.

He has served on the Southeastern Health (SeHealth) Board since 1998, rotating off for one year and returning to serve in 2011. Dr. Rozier has served in the past as president of SeHealth’s Medical Staff as well as on the Medical Staff Development Committee of SeHealth’s Board of Trustees. Though he will rotate off of the board this year, Dr. Rozier will remain as ex-officio.

Dr. Rozier has been a loyal supporter of SeHealth and its programs, having served on the steering committee for the Southeastern Health Heart and Vascular funding project, as a supporter of the Academic Scholarship Endowment, and Pillar Partner for the Southeastern Regional Medical Center (SRMC) Bed Tower as well as numerous other special projects.

In the nomination submission for this honor, Dr. Rozier was commended for demonstrating excellence in his medical profession through his character, generosity, and devotion, as well as his gentle nature in caring for all people. Other accolades include his patients’ love for him because of his compassionate bedside manner and upholding his professional standards to this community, its residents, his patients and to the leadership of SRMC for over 40 years.

Supporting the hospital financially, participating in special events, and teaching medical students and residents, Dr. Rozier has served as an example of leadership to his peers. He supports his community by participating in various civic activities, supporting the Friends of the Library, Rumba on the Lumber, as well as through leadership roles at Trinity Episcopal Church.

“Dr. Rozier and his wife, Farleigh, have been true partners and teammates in philanthropy to the hospital and this community,” said Sissy Grantham, director of the SeHealth Foundation. “The Roziers reside in Lumberton, where they have opened their home for numerous fundraising and social events for the hospital as well other community and civic events.”

Previous winners of the SeHealth Foundation’s Friend of Philanthropy Award include Dr. Bob B. Andrews, whom the award was named after, and Dr. D.E. Ward, Jr.
