Advocates event to fund robotic exoskeleton

Southeastern Health Foundation Advocates are young professionals from throughout the county who understand the importance of Southeastern Health to the well-being of our community. The Advocates work together to raise awareness and funds to support the initiatives and needs which have been identified by Southeastern Health’s leadership and its Board of Trustees. Their fundraising efforts help the Foundation meet goals for special projects that otherwise might not be funded or could possibly take longer to secure.

The 2016 Boots & BBQ event was originally planned for the week after Hurricane Matthew. Instead of cancelling the event, the group chose to reschedule the event for New Year's Eve to make sure their 2016 fundraising goal was met to secure an additional isolette for Southeastern Health NICU.

The Foundation Advocates are looking forward to the upcoming 2017 Boots & BBQ event to be held Friday, October 20 at the Southeastern Agricultural Center Horse Arena from 7-11 p.m. with Fuller’s BBQ and live entertainment by The Mikele Buck Band.  The live auction will begin at 9:30 p.m.  The 2017 Boots & BBQ premiere sponsors are RGS Builders for the band, Brisson Drugs for the bar and the Robeson County Board of Commissioners for food.

The funds raised through sponsorship and ticket sales will go towards the purchase of a robotic exoskeleton for Southeastern Rehabilitation WoodHaven. The exoskeleton will help those who have suffered from stroke, back injury or other motor injury to be able to rehab with robotic assistance with the hopes that they will walk again on their own.

"Our goal is to surpass the amount of funds needed to purchase the vital equipment and have fun doing it,” said Advocates Chairwoman Christy Bryant.  “If you are a business owner in the community that understands the importance of our community hospital, please consider sponsoring Boots & BBQ or any of the other Foundation events that give support to the hospital's efforts. If you are a community member who wants to join us, know that you will have a great time and be helping a great cause!”
