Festival of Trees celebrates “Signs of the season”

Southeastern Hospice’s annual Festival of Trees will celebrate “Signs of the season” as this year’s Festival begins on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 1 pm.

The annual holiday benefit for Southeastern Hospice, Southeastern Regional Medical Center’s program of care for terminally ill patients and their families, is being held in the Osterneck Auditorium at 102 N. Chestnut Street in Lumberton, directly across from the Robeson County Public Library, Sunday from 1 until 5 p.m., and Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 5-6, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Fresh-baked goodies, specialty food, crafts and gift items, such as holiday ornaments, wreaths and centerpieces, are being sold in the Festival’s Unique Boutique gift shop, which operates only during the days of the Festival.

A special Memorial Tree, which features the names of Southeastern Hospice patients who have passed away since December 2010, will also be featured at the event.

Southeastern Regional Medical Center Marketing Coordinator Ann McLean has coordinated the Festival since it first began in 1986.

“Each year, I continue to get excited about the Festival and what it means to this community and to Southeastern Regional Medical Center’s hospice program,” said McLean.  “Due to the poor economy, I was a little concerned this year about meeting our sponsorship goal, but we have met our mark due to the tremendous support of our dedicated sponsors and decorators. I think this speaks well of the wonderful hospice program that we have. Vickie Atkinson and her team at Southeastern Hospice do an excellent job in taking care of terminally ill patients and their families.”

Tickets for the Festival can be purchased at the door.  Admission is $3 for adults; $2 for seniors and children over the age of 12. Children under 12 and members of Southeastern’s PrivilegesPlus program will be admitted at no charge. All proceeds benefit Southeastern Hospice and Camp Care, a summer camp for children ages 8-16 who have lost a loved one, and donations are tax deductible.
