National Handwashing Awareness Week December 4th – 10th 2011

Let’s have a Happy Healthy Holiday season by starting off with celebrating National Handwashing Awareness Week to help make your facility “Patient Safe”! Whether it is flu, flu-like, VRE or C.difficile it can cause an endemic event in your facility

There are some simple steps to achieve better Patient Safety and Infection Prevention in your health care facility.

First, be sure EVERYONE (staff and visitors) washes or sanitizes their hands upon entering the facility. You would not want to bring in Norovirus, influenza or other “invisible” organisms!

Second be sure EVERYONE washes or sanitizes their hands upon leaving the facility. You would not want to take MRSA, VRE, C.difficle, etc. home to your family or friends!

Third, teach the staff to never touch their T Zone, hence they will not be sick from a respiratory infection and will improve “presenteeism” at your facility. The T Zone is the mucus membranes of the eyes, nose or mouth, which are the only portal of entry into the human body for respiratory infections!

Thank you for helping to "Spread the word not the germs"!

The 4 Principles of Hand Awareness:

  1. WASH your hands when they are dirty and BEFORE eating.
  2. DO NOT cough into your hands.
  3. DO NOT sneeze into your hands.
  4. Above all, DO NOT put your fingers into your eyes, nose, or mouth.

The 4 Principles of Hand Awareness have been endorsed by the AMA and AAFP.
