Linda Sutton, MD

Dr. Linda Sutton is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. She serves as Medical Director of the Duke Oncology Network. Dr. Sutton received her Medical Degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1987. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Montefiore Hospital and Medical Center in Bronx, New York in 1990, and her Hematology/Oncology Fellowship was completed at Duke University Medical Center in 1993.


Maleka Ahmed, MD

Dr. Maleka Ahmed is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. She is currently working with the Duke Oncology Network (DON) in her role as full-time physician at the Gibson Cancer Center in Lumberton, North Carolina. Dr. Ahmed received her Medical Degree from Dacca Medical College in Bangladesh in 1982. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Joint Diseases North General Hospital in New York in 1986, and her Hematology/Oncology Fellowship was completed at Jewish Medical Center, New Hyde Park, New York in 1991.


Mouna Abouamara, M.D.

Medical Oncologist Mouna Abouamara, M.D., has joined Gibson Cancer Center, an affiliate of Southeastern Health.

Dr. Abouamara earned a medical degree from University of Hassan II in Casablanca, Morocco in 1987. She completed an internal medicine residency in 2002 and medical oncology fellowship in 2013, both from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

“As a Duke doctor, it is really nice to have a great number of services available for cancer and blood disorder patients right here in the cancer center,” said Dr. Abouamara, who is from Morocco and currently resides in Lumberton.

Gibson Cancer Center is located at 1200 Pine Run Drive in Lumberton. Medical Oncology services are affiliated with Duke Medicine. For more information, call (910) 671-5730.


Marvaretta Stevenson, MD

Dr. Marvaretta Stevenson is a Medical Instructor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. She currently works with the Duke Oncology Network as a physician at various outreach sites. Dr. Stevenson received her Medical Degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina in 2004. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina in 2007, and her Hematology/Oncology Fellowship was also completed at Duke University Medical Center in 2010.


Maribeth Schrum, PA-C

Maribeth Schrum is a Physician Assistant in the Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. She currently works with the Duke Oncology Network seeing patients at the Gibson Cancer Center full-time in Lumberton, North Carolina. Maribeth received her Bachelor of Science in Biology degree in 1993 from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, in Pembroke, North Carolina. She received her Masters in Health Science in 1999 from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.


Thomas Walden, Jr. MD, PhD

Dr. Walden is from Raleigh and received his undergraduate degree from NC State University. He went on to receive his Masters and PhD in Radiation Biology from the University of Tennessee. While a graduate student he received a research grant from the American Cancer Society and a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship as well as completed a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship. After earning his PhD, Dr. Walden worked at the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute in Bethesda, MD. Because of his growing interest in radiobiology and cancer he was led to apply to medical school. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University and completed his residency in Radiation Oncology from the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md. Dr. Walden is board certified by the American Board of Radiology in Radiation Oncology.

Dr. Walden joined Gibson Cancer Center in 1999 as part of Southeastern Radiation Oncology Group. He has made this community his home and is a valued contributor to tumor conferences and the chair of Southeastern Regional Medical Center’s Cancer Committee.
