Procedures

Southeastern Health offers full-service heart, thoracic, and vascular procedures, including:

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts (CABG), a surgery that can improve blood flow to the heart by providing a new route, or “bypass”, around a section of blocked or diseased arteries

Valve surgery, repair and replacement of cardiac valves

Thoracic surgical procedures for treatment of diseases of the chest and lungs, such as removal of lung cancers or chest masses

Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), a non-surgical procedure in which several methods may be employed to clear blockages in the coronary arteries, allowing blood to flow normally. Some of the more common methods include:

  • Angioplasty, where a balloon-tipped catheter is inserted into a blocked or narrowed artery and inflated to clear the blockage
  • Stent placement (including drug-eluting types), where a tiny cage-like structure helps keep open arteries cleared by angioplasty
  • Coronary atherectomy, where plaque is removed from inside an artery using a special burr or drill on the tip of a catheter that rotates to shave the plaque into tiny pieces

Insertion of permanent pacemakers

Comprehensive vascular services including:

  • Bypass surgery for peripheral artery disease (PAD), a surgery to reroute the blood supply around a blocked artery in your legs
  • Endovascular therapy for peripheral artery disease (PAD), minimally invasive procedures that are done inside the blood vessels that have become narrowed or blocked with plaque over time – a condition known as atherosclerosis.
  • Carotid endarterectomy, a surgical procedure to open and clean the carotid artery with goal of stroke prevention
  • Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), a procedure to repair an aneurysm of the aorta
  • Laser treatment of varicose veins, where a laser fiber is passed through a thin catheter into the vein to close the varicose vein
  • Hemodialysis access, a surgical procedure to create vascular access for patients needing hemodialysis
