Cardiac Catheterization is one of the most accurate ways to evaluate the structure and function of the heart in patients suspected of having coronary artery disease. Our highly trained cardiac cath team, working with the latest technology under the direction of a physician cardiologist, performs hundreds of these diagnostic procedures each year. Our lab is operated in affiliation with Duke Medicine.
Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation promotes physical reconditioning for clients after heart attacks, cardiovascular surgery, other cardiac-related conditions and lung disease through a structured program of exercise and education.
Cardiopulmonary Services provides respiratory therapists and technicians, who, under order from a physician, manage our patient’s respiratory needs, including administration of supplemental oxygen, breathing treatments, as well as ventilator management. The pulmonary Diagnostics and Neurophysiology labs evaluate the health and functioning of the lungs, brain, nerves and muscles to diagnose certain conditions such as epilepsy, brain tumors, strokes, pinched nerves, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Community Health Services
“Good habits lead to good health” is the watchword of Community Health Services. This department, staffed by dietitians, nurses, exercise physiologists and other health professionals, offers community health screenings, vaccinations, lifestyle modification classes, and educational programs to improve health and reduce the risk of disease. Diabetes education and chronic disease management are among other services offered through this department. Community Health Services also joins forces with other community health care agencies to participate in Healthy Robeson, whose goal is to improve the overall health of the community.

Emergency Services are available 24 hours every day through our Emergency Department, a 45-bed unit providing Level II emergency medical services. Staffed by emergency physicians and nurses trained in emergency care, this department serves about 75,000 patients of all ages and diagnoses each year with around-the-clock care and specialty consultation.
Intensive / Intermediate Care Units
Intensivist-led specialized care is provided in the 12-bed Intensive Care unit, as well as the nearby 7-bed Intermediate care unit. Both are designed, equipped, and staffed to care for the critically ill patient needing constant observation and monitoring.
The CAP-accredited Laboratory conducts many of the tests ordered by physicians who prescribe treatment based on lab results. Medical technologists perform these tests under the direction of board-certified pathologists, physicians trained in laboratory medicine. Also available are outpatient testing, drug screen testing, allergy testing and courier service. The Blood Bank is supplied by the American Red Cross.
Medical Imaging uses state-of-the-art technology to provide the latest in diagnostic procedures, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), digital subtraction angiography, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and computerized tomography (CT) total body scanning in addition to traditional x-ray exams. All imaging procedures are interpreted by board-certified physician radiologists.
Nutrition Counseling is provided by registered dietitians who have been certified to assist in meal planning and food preparation for people on modified diets or with special nutritional needs. These services are available to both inpatients and outpatients under the direction of a physician.
Patient Care Services
Patient Care Services are provided by a nursing team led by a registered nurse (RN) who works closely with the patient’s physician. Also, licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants and clerical coordinators are part of the skilled and dedicated nursing team. Each of these employees performs assigned tasks according to his or her education and training and always under a professional leader.

Each of the registered pharmacists in the Pharmacy supervises the preparation of medications and intravenous fluids ordered by physicians 24 hours a day. With the computerized medication profile system, pharmacists are able to provide safety checks, including screening for drug-drug interactions, proper dosage for age and weight and patient allergies. Pharmacists are also available to consult with the physicians and counsel patients on the use of medications.
Rehabilitation Services are designed to return the sick or injured person to optimal functioning as quickly and safely as possible. Physical therapy provides a variety of treatments under the direction of physicians to improve muscle strength and flexibility. Registered physical therapists and assistants perform electrotherapy, hydrotherapy, corrective and restorative exercise, heat therapy, and massage for both outpatients and acute-care inpatients. Occupational therapy offers hand and motor rehabilitation for patients, young and old, suffering from strokes, burns, injuries and other disorders. Sports Medicine offers comprehensive treatment for the prevention, care and rehab of athletic injuries to promote a safe and quick return to normal activity.
Surgical Services are provided by our highly experienced team of surgeons, nurses and technicians working with the latest equipment in our modern eight-room operating suite. A certified registered nurse anesthetist under the supervision of a physician anesthesiologist administers the anesthesia and supervises care during surgery. In the post-anesthesia recovery room, the patient is continuously monitored by qualified nurses. Outpatient Surgery is available for more surgical procedures than ever before in our convenient Outpatient Surgery Center, where the latest in laser and endoscopy equipment and procedures are also available.
