PrivilegesPlus members attended Fitness Focus-Chair Yoga on August 11 taught by Southeastern Lifestyle Fitness Center Yoga Instructor Natalie Lewis, which featured breathing and stretching techniques. Southeastern Spine and Pain Nurse Practitioner Josh Freeman educated members about spine and pain issues at the lunch & learn event on August 13 at Village Station. August is Neurosurgery Outreach Month, and Freeman provided information regarding the services offered at the Spine and Pain Clinic. Members that attended the Double Bunco event on August 17 received information on back pain, which was a health focus for Southeastern Health in August. The August events concluded with a clay art class on August 19, where members hand-built a clay pumpkin in preparation for the fall. Hope to see members at an event in September!
PrivilegesPlus July 2015 highlights
The PrivilegesPlus July event calendar included a lot of educational and fun events for members to attend! The month began with a Medicare 101 seminar on July 9 taught by MedicareCompareUSA (MCUSA) representative Terri Herlica. SeHealth partners with MCUSA to provide a free Medicare helpline for individuals in the community who need help comparing and enrolling in Medicare plans. PrivilegesPlus members channeled their artistic side at the Paint your own canvas art class on July 15. Members painted a beautiful dandelion with the help of Patty Speights from Handworks by Patty Back Yard Studio. Members beat the heat and participated in some fitness fun at the free PrivilegesPlus bowling event on July 22. On July 23, Nilu Wieties shared information regarding SeHealth’s medical education program at the PrivilegesPlus lunch & learn at Village Station. Members learned about the medical students and residents that are now working with SeHealth physicians at SRMC and affiliates in the area. The July event calendar ended on July 27 at a Double Bunco event. Members who attended the afternoon of fun received information regarding skin safety, which was a health focus of Southeastern Health in July. PrivilegesPlus June 2015 highlights
June was a busy and fun month! Bowling is a perfect fitness activity for a hot summer month and members joined in the fun at a PrivilegesPlus bowling party on June 10! Remember- PrivilegesPlus members receive a 15% discount on bowling games and shoe rentals at Lumberton Bowling Center, located at 2205 Godwin Ave. On June 15, members attended Double Bunco and helpful handouts were distributed regarding cataract awareness. The art series continued on June 17 with the creation of a hand-built clay bird feeder. The art classes will be switching gears in July and members will be invited to paint a beautiful piece of art. In recognition of June as National Dairy Month, PrivilegesPlus hosted a dairy information session, taught by Community Dietitian Alina Mantha, on the new Wellness on Wheels outreach bus. The W.O.W. outreach bus is available for community events to help educate and encourage better health. On June 25, members attended a very helpful and informative lunch & learn event featuring a presentation on important health screenings for adults 50 and older by Patient Navigator Catherine Gaines. PrivilegesPlus May 2015 Highlights
PrivilegesPlus members had the opportunity to attend a variety of events in May including the Fitness Focus event on May 12, which featured Exercise Physiologist Candace Langston discussing Southeastern Lifestyle Fitness Center’s medical referral fitness program (for more information about the program, visit http://www.srmc.org/main/component/content/article/140-healthnews/1098-clinical-exercise-physiologist-can-help-navigate-fitness-plan.html). Langston also taught a light aerobics fitness class to the group. On May 14, PrivilegesPlus members attended a lunch & learn event featuring an arthritis presentation by Dr. Maria Watson. Dr. Watson provides care at Southeastern Arthritis, located inside the new Southeastern Health Park on Dawn Drive. To reach Southeastern Arthritis, call 671-8556. To help spotlight Southeastern Health’s May health focus, handouts were distributed regarding stroke awareness on May 18 at Double Bunco. PrivilegesPlus/Fitness Center Spring Dance
The PrivilegesPlus spotlight event in April was the first ever spring dance! The dance, which was held on April 25, was a fun night filled with lots of music and dancing all for a good cause. After our first charity spring dance, PrivilegesPlus and Fitness Center members donated $220 to the Ribbons for Cancer Recovery Endowment Fund http://www.srmc.org/main/foundationmenulink.html). The PrivilegesPlus program hosted a Coffee & Conversation event on April 14, which featured information about MedicareCompareUSA and its partnership with Southeastern Health. MCUSA offers a free helpline (866-288-9381) for individuals looking for help in comparing and enrolling in Medicare plans. Members also attended Double Bunco on April 27, where helpful handouts were distributed regarding foot health, which was one of Southeastern Health’s April health focuses.
