PrivilegesPlus June 2015 highlights
June was a busy and fun month! Bowling is a perfect fitness activity for a hot summer month and members joined in the fun at a PrivilegesPlus bowling party on June 10! Remember- PrivilegesPlus members receive a 15% discount on bowling games and shoe rentals at Lumberton Bowling Center, located at 2205 Godwin Ave. On June 15, members attended Double Bunco and helpful handouts were distributed regarding cataract awareness. The art series continued on June 17 with the creation of a hand-built clay bird feeder. The art classes will be switching gears in July and members will be invited to paint a beautiful piece of art. You don’t want to miss it! In recognition of June as National Dairy Month, PrivilegesPlus hosted a dairy information session, taught by Community Dietitian Alina Mantha, on the new Wellness on Wheels outreach bus. The W.O.W. outreach bus is available for community events to help educate and encourage better health. On June 25, members attended a very helpful and informative lunch & learn event featuring a presentation on important health screenings for adults 50 and older by Patient Navigator Catherine Gaines. PrivilegesPlus May 2015 Highlights
PrivilegesPlus members had the opportunity to attend a variety of events in May including the Fitness Focus event on May 12, which featured Exercise Physiologist Candace Langston discussing Southeastern Lifestyle Fitness Center’s medical referral fitness program (for more information about the program, visit http://www.srmc.org/main/component/content/article/140-healthnews/1098-clinical-exercise-physiologist-can-help-navigate-fitness-plan.html). Langston also taught a light aerobics fitness class to the group. On May 14, PrivilegesPlus members attended a lunch & learn event featuring an arthritis presentation by Dr. Maria Watson. Dr. Watson provides care at Southeastern Arthritis, located inside the new Southeastern Health Park on Dawn Drive. To reach Southeastern Arthritis, call 671-8556. To help spotlight Southeastern Health’s May health focus, handouts were distributed regarding stroke awareness on May 18 at Double Bunco. Members also got to express their artistic side by hand building a clay vase at the PrivilegesPlus art class on May 19. Join in the fun – come to a PrivilegesPlus event in June!
PrivilegesPlus/Fitness Center Spring Dance
The PrivilegesPlus spotlight event in April was the first ever spring dance! The dance, which was held on April 25, was a fun night filled with lots of music and dancing all for a good cause. After our first charity spring dance, PrivilegesPlus and Fitness Center members donated $220 to the Ribbons for Cancer Recovery Endowment Fund http://www.srmc.org/main/foundationmenulink.html). Thank you to all who attended the dance and supported the good cause!
PrivilegesPlus April 2015 Highlights
The PrivilegesPlus program hosted a Coffee & Conversation event on April 14, which featured information about MedicareCompareUSA and its partnership with Southeastern Health. MCUSA offers a free helpline (866-288-9381) for individuals looking for help in comparing and enrolling in Medicare plans. The Lunch & Learn on April 16 featured a vascular disease presentation by Dr. Lina Vargas with assistance from Bryan Hilbourn (To learn more about Dr Vargas, visit http://www.srmc.org/main/aboutfastfact/aboutnewsarticles/1029-vascular-surgeon-joins-sehealth-heart-and-vascular.html). Members also attended Double Bunco on April 27, where helpful handouts were distributed regarding foot health, which was one of Southeastern Health’s April health focuses. A group line dances during the Fall Harvest dance hosted by the Southeastern Lifestyle Center for Fitness and Rehabilitation and the PrivilegesPlus program on Saturday, September 24. More than 100 people enjoyed an evening of dancing, music, games, raffles, food and fellowship. Individuals age 50 or older who are interested in joining the PrivilegesPlus program, a health and wellness program of Southeastern Regional Medical Center that offers an array of educational and social activities, should call 671-5018
