Meet Our Providers

Melissa Brooks

Melissa Brooks, M.D.

Dr. Brooks earned her medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, WV, in 2006. She completed an OB/GYN residency at Mountain Area Health Education Center in Asheville, N.C., in 2010. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and has special interests in minimally invasive surgery, pelvic floor disorders, urinary incontinence as well as adolescent gynecology.

Before joining UNC Health Southeastern, Dr. Brooks practiced in Dillon, SC.

LaShauna R. Deese

LaShauna R. Deese, M.D.

LaShauna R. Deese, M.D., has joined Southeastern Women’s Healthcare and the medical staff of UNC Health Southeastern. Dr. Deese completed bachelor’s degrees in both chemistry and computer science from UNC Pembroke in 2003. She earned a medical degree from UNC School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, N.C., in 2009 and completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC, in July 2013. Her areas of special interest include preventative care and minimally invasive gynecological surgery.

Dr. Deese is originally from Pembroke and currently lives in Lumberton. She joins Drs. Brandon Locklear and Meredith Watson-Locklear and Certified Nurse Midwives Lisa Blake, Connie Canady and Monica Oxendine at the clinic located at 4300 Fayetteville Road in Lumberton. Maria Hardenbergh

Maria Hardenbergh, M.D.

Dr. Hardenbergh earned her medical degree from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, in 1998. She completed an OB/GYN residency at West Virginia University in 2006 after serving active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1999 to 2003 as a General Medical Officer. She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and has a special interest in women’s health as it relates to substance use and dependency.

Donald McKinley

Donald McKinley, M.D.

Donald McKinley, M.D., has joined the medical staff of UNC Health Southeastern and will begin practicing at Southeastern Women’s Healthcare on Wednesday, June 14.

Dr. McKinley earned a medical degree from The University of Iowa College of Medicine in Iowa City, Iowa, in 1982. He completed residency training at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va., in 1986. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Prior to joining UNC Health Southeastern, Dr. McKinley practiced in Galax, Va. He also served as department chair and director of teaching and research at the University of Pittsburgh/Magee Women's Health-Lee Regional Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. His areas of interest include uro-gynecology and advanced laparoscopy, including non-robotic laparoscopic hysterectomy.

A native of Iowa, Dr. McKinley has moved to Lumberton with his wife, Judy. He has three daughters, one son and five grandchildren.

Jacqueline Muhammad

Jacqueline Muhammad, MD, FACOG

Dr. Jacqueline Muhammad, a maternal fetal medicine (MFM) specialist, has joined the Women’s Health team at UNC Health Southeastern. Her office is located on the campus of Southeastern Health Park at 4901 Dawn Drive, Ste. 1200, Lumberton.

As an MFM, also called a perinatologist, Dr. Muhammad provides a wide range of services for women who have high-risk pregnancies, including women who are at increased risk from genetic disorders due to advanced maternal age, women who are experiencing or have a history of pregnancy complications, and women with preexisting medical conditions that might adversely affect their pregnancy outcome. She is available for preconception counseling.

Dr. Muhammad is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine and has an extensive background in managing high risk pregnancies. She completed her Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa., after completing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, N.J. Dr. Muhammad earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of N.J.’s Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Howard University in Washington, D.C. She was previously a perinatologist at Wake Med Physician Practices in Raleigh.

Dr. Muhammad lives near Red Springs with her husband, John, and their children.

Walter Neal

Walter Neal, M.D.

Walter E. Neal, M.D., earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va., in 1966. He completed residency training there in 1970. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Monica Oxendine

Monica Oxendine, CNM

Certified Nurse-Midwife Monica Locklear Oxendine has joined Southeastern Women’s Healthcare, an affiliate of UNC Health Southeastern.

Oxendine completed a bachelor’s degree in community health education from UNC Pembroke in 1998. She also completed a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2002 and master’s degree in nursing in 2004, both from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She has worked as a certified nurse-midwife for more than seven years in Laurinburg and Bennettsville, South Carolina. “I am pleased to provide health care to women of all ages in the community in which I live,” said Oxendine. “I am most grateful for the opportunity to experience the miracle of birth over and over again when delivering babies and sharing the very unique experience with individual families.

” Oxendine lives in Pembroke with her husband, Dewayne, and two daughters, Savannah, 5, and Sarina, 2. Oxendine joins Drs. Lindsey Webb

Lindsey Webb, M.D.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Dr. Webb was most recently practicing at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Md. She also completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Sinai Hospital. Webb received her Doctor of Medicine degree from The Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, Pa., and received her undergraduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh.

In 2017, Webb was presented with the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists’ Recognition of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and the Sinai Hospital Nursing Appreciation Award.
